The CSC Goes Back to SchoolWe spent our first year in an old church that had been turned into a theatre. When the floods of 2013 washed that away, we moved into the entertainment room of a condominium complex. This was a great space, but it was getting full, especially with tripping over all the children during the service. The time had come to find a bigger, better, more permanent location.
As of September 2014, the CSC will now be meeting at the University of Calgary. We have reserved SS113 and SS117 in the Social Sciences building for the next year. This gives us a great place to meet where we can grow, that is close to transit, where the kids can have their own separate meeting room, and has affordable parking. Maps are available online and will be posted on the main website, MeetUp and Facebook groups before the event.
Unfortunately, food and drink are not allowed in the classrooms, so our monthly pot-luck brunch has come to and end for now, but feel free to meet before and after on your own.
Our first meeting at this space is September 28th at 10:30 AM. Don't miss it!
The CSC Goes HomeHome church is a simple concept: 10 people meet in a house to read a brief portion from the CSC Moral Handbook, then discuss it over snacks and goodies. This informal gathering time is the foundation of your community at the CSC, the place where strangers become friends become family. We are looking for volunteers to open their homes once a month for one hour in the afternoon on the second Sunday of the month.
The CSC Goes LegitOur charity-status application is in! We anticipate this process will take about 4-6 months to complete, and when it's done we'll be able to offer tax receipts for donations. It will also give us legal status and access to other funding. We'll keep you posted as we go.
The CSC Goes OfficialStarting this Autumn, the CSC will have official membership. Membership is completely optional. You do not need to be a member to participate in anything that the CSC does. It's just something fun that we hope you'll enjoy.
The process is simple: Earn 400 points for your 2015 membership before the 2014 CSC Winter Solstice party! How do you earn points? Easy. Points are awarded for getting involved in the CSC's activities (attending meetings, volunteering, and donating). Don't worry, we'll keep track of everything, so all you need to do is show up.
Members earn the right to vote on the CSC's leadership, policy, and direction. Other membership benefits may come later as we figure out what works best.
