Meetings

One of the most important functions the Calgary Secular Church has is to provide community for the non-religious. We do this through two monthly meetings, which are open to all.

Monthly Sunday Meeting

The Sunday meeting is the most important feature of the Calgary Secular Church. It allows like-minded people the chance to get together, to fellowship, to share stories, to enjoy beautiful music, to have their children get excellent ethical and rational instruction, to be enlightened, and most importantly, to know they are not alone!
We meet on the last Sunday of every month (except for July and August). As demand grows, we will meet more frequently, so watch this space.
Meetings start at 1:00 PM and are at Evergreen Spaces, 1709-8th Ave NE. Please watch for signage inside the building, as there are multiple meeting spaces there.

We usually have a small pot-luck after our Sunday meeting, so please feel free to bring finger foods or something to share.

There is free parking on site. If you take transit, please let us know before hand so we can pick you up at the Calgary Zoo parking lot.

Led by the Spirits

For a more informal gathering, join us for our monthly pub night! Led by the Spirits pub nights are much the same as our Sunday meetings, but with less home-cooked food and more beer (it's a trade-off). What is the same is the community and sharing, the spirited conversation and the sense being part of something larger than ourselves.
Led by the Spirits occurs on the second Tuesday of every month at 8:00 pm at the The Kilkenny Irish Pub #500-3630 Brentwood Rd NW Calgary AB, T2L 1K8. If you're new, look for the "Calgary Secular Church" sign on the table!

  2. By the way the idea of a hotline for those not sure where to turn when filled with doubt is a great idea, but there is a need for true commitment. And letting the public know about it.
I suggest setting a time line for contact.
i.e. Between the hours of..... or if you can arrange for say a person who is up all night or very late, that can answer people at those times & then others during the day.
    just a few suggestions.

  3. Hi Eliah! Sorry you missed us (or we missed you!) There were about 12 of us at the pub and we had a rollicking meeting. :)

As a note to anyone else trying to find us: Please look for the "Calgary Secular Church" sign on the table. Also, if you use Facebook, it usually works pretty well to post there that you can't find us. We'll definitely work on getting a better system down... We are always deeply disappointed when we miss someone.

And I'll email you regarding your other suggestions, Eliah. Thanks for your interest!

  6. Hello, I am a student at the University of Calgary. I am starting an Interfaith club on campus and am also the President of the Freethinkers club. I would like to bring both groups out to one of your meetings or organize an event on campus with your group for the next school year (September 2014-April 2015). Does either one (or both) sound interesting to your group?

    1. Hello, bdhesse. Sorry about not getting back to you right away. I was thinking about your questions, and then lost where and how they had been asked. But I've found you now!

Your group is always welcome at our Sunday services (as is everyone). Next meeting is April 27th. Unfortunately, I am out of town on business that day, but the service will be capably handled by others. Remember there is a potluck brunch after, so bring something nibbly if you can.

I'm very interested in doing an event on campus. Please contact me at korey.peters@calgarysecularchurch.org and we can start to make plans. Thanks!

  7. Korey I sent you a comment about wanting to get a church established on Vancouver Island but leaving you without a contact email doesn't help, lol. Can you contact my email at ckendall2@gmail.com so that you might point me in the right direction.

    Hope this finds you well.

    1. Hi Judytoo. Sorry our current location doesn't work for you. Being right at a C-Train station is as good as transit gets in Calgary, and that's what we've got now.

If it helps, we're moving to Evergreen Community Spaces at 1709-8th Ave NE in the Autumn. It's further from transit, but we'll run shuttles to/from the Zoo C-Train station before and after the service. Hope that helps!

  11. What do your meetings offer for children? Do you already have any families with young children that attend your meetings? I have a 6-year-old, a 3.5-year-old, and a 3-month-old. I'm curious to know if we would meet other families at the meetings.

    1. Hello! We absolutely have children at our meetings already. Seems like they outnumber the adults sometimes! We offer a fun and interactive Sunday School for children ages 3+ and a toy bin for children less than 3 to rummage around in during the service. Hope to see you at the service.
